PROFILE
Mapin Publishing Pvt. Ltd is internationally reputed for producing high-quality art books on Indian art and culture. Its publishing programme covers a broad spectrum: fine art, architecture, archaeology, crafts, design, exhibition catalogues, museum collections, performing arts and photography. It also publishes new writing under the literary imprint, MapinLit and has started a children's imprint to take art to young readers.                  

Mapin's first book, Crafts of Gujarat, was published in 1985. The publishing house has received numerous international awards since then for its contribution to the understanding of Indian art and culture and for producing outstanding publications of repute. These include Foreword Book of the Year Awards (for Handmade in India and Sacred Spaces) British Art Historians Award (for Indian Painting), Textile Society of America Award (for Threads of Identity) and Shephard Award (for Kashmiri Shawl), to name a few.

The company works with internationally known art book publishers and museums to collaborate and produce books and exhibition catalogues. Some include: Rizzoli International Publications, New York; Prestel Verlag, Munich; The Asia Society Galleries, New York; Santa Fe Museum of International Folk Art; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, Rubin Museum, New York, Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena; and Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville. Among the university presses, Mapin has produced for and co-published with The University of Washington Press, Seattle; Oxford University Press, New York, and Indiana University Press, Bloomington.

In India, the company has successfully partnered with museums and government agencies to produce books for them. Some of the notable collaborations have been with: Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, COHANDS (Council of Handicrafts Development Corporation), the governments of Rajasthan and Gujarat, Crafts Musuem, and the National Gallery of Modern Art. Mapin has also collaborated with private collections in India and abroad, such as The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, Museum of Sacred Art among others.

In addition to its publishing services, Mapin offers packaging services to museums, galleries, corporate clients and other publishers to develop books. It also offers distribution services through a pool of sales representatives and warehouses in key locations to covering all markets around the world. The company participates in the major international book fairs and specialist events, and is represented at other fairs through its distributors.
